Inside Cordelia, there is an organic farm where we can grow vegetables, and also raise livestock. So people are able to get basic vegetables and meats for foods. This farm is on one of the economical resources section of Cordelia. And this farm, which is 6 acres, occupy 3/4 of the entire economical resources section.
Every day, farmers who work here go into the farm and raise those crops. On 1/3 of the entire farm, we raise all kinds of crops and vegetables, such as lettuce, rice, tomato, potatoes, cucumbers, and etc. On another 1/3 of the farm, we raise fruits, such as apple trees, orange trees, and etc.
Every spring, farmers will plant seeds for crops, vegetables, and fruit trees. Then during the later spring until the end of summer, they will raise them with their best effort, such as by always watering them. Finally, in Autumn, they'll harvest all the crops and vegetable, which will be moved to the other economical resources section (where we store things). For fruit trees, farmers just wait until they're all grown up, then they also gather those fruits, which will also be moved to economical resources section. Economical resources section will always be kept in suitable temperature, so all the foods there will be kept fresh everyday.
For the other 1/3 of the farm, we raise livestocks, such as cows, sheeps, or pigs. 1/3 of the entire farm is 2 acres, which is about 8, 094 square meter. It is almost similar to official soccer stadium. We have 30 cows, 30 pigs, 30 sheeps, and other animals all in 30. And the entire city will only consume one of them in total for one week to two weeks. This way, we can keep the number of these livestocks, so that they won't be all gone one day.
Now, for the other 1/4 of the economical resources section, we have fish-catching area and tiny port. there. In there, trained fishermen set sail with medium sized fishing boat, and catch enough amount of fish per week. And on the fish-catching area, we can open the floor, then catch fish using nets, or catch it using a harpoon. We have a law about how much fish we are able to catch per week, so that all the fishes in Mediterranean sea won't exterminate. After fish-catching, all the fishes will be sent to the other half part of economical resources section, and same as crops and vegetables, will be stored their freshly. However, unlike crops, the other half part will be remained really cold, so that fishes won't be tainted.
So we have fishes, vegetables, fruits, and all kinds of delicious crops that people will be eating in Cordelia. Also, Cordelia is floating all around the Mediterranean Sea. This means that it can catch all kinds of fresh fishes. So we sell those typical and delicious fishes, which they can't actually catch, to other countries. Then we can earn money from it, which will help our economy.
Since Cordelia is a city floating around the ocean, we take advantage of it and use sea water for our water source. Now some people might think if we drink sea water, it will be too salty, and bad for our health. So Cordelia uses desalination system to transfrom sea water into drinkable water.
There are many ways of desalination system, such as osmotic pressure desalination, or just a simple desalination using energy from some fuels. However, all of these requires a lot of money, and in case of osmotic pressure desalination, it requires extremely high technology. Also, what Cordelia is looking for is a desalination process that isn't so expensive, and uses only eco-friendly energy for it. So, what we use is solar desalination process.
Some people might think of using solar panels to generate energy needed for it. But for solar desalination process, it is quite different. We use solar heat energy instead of sunlight energy. So what does it mean by that?Basically, thermal desalination plant is installed on the downtown of Cordelia. And this plant is kept provided with sea water through water pipe.
Then, using the solar heat collectors (a type of mirror), we boil

the sea water until about 100 ℃. Sea water will evaporate, which will create water vapor. When the water vapor reaches condenser, the water vapor transforms into water (drinkable) by condensing process (cooling the vapor to transform gas into liquid), and the distillate is moved to other part of the thermal desalination plant. This pure water will be processed (purification, removal of bacteria, and etc.) and transform into drinkable, clean water. This clean water will then be sent to all houses, buildings, or all parts of city through water pipe.
Then people can taste clean, fresh water!
The number of calories the body consumes in a day is different for every person. You may notice on the nutritional labels of the foods you buy that the "percent daily values" are based on a 2,000 calories diet -- 2,000 calories is a rough average of what people eat in a day. But your body might need more or less than 2,000. Height, weight, gender, age and activity level all affect your caloric needs. There are three main factors involved in calculating how many calories your body needs per day:
-
basal metabolic rate
-
physical activity
-
thermic effect of food

In Cordelia, according to the picture, childs will have about 1, 000 calories, about 30~40 years old female will have about 1800 calories, and 30~40 years old male will have 2,200 calories per day. Your basal metabolic rate (BMR) is the amount of energy your body needs to function at rest. This accounts for about 60 to 70 percent of calories burned in a day and includes the energy required to keep the heart beating, the lungs breathing, the eyelids blinking and the body temperature stabilized. In general, men have a higher BMR than women. One of the most accurate methods of estimating your basal metabolic rate is this Harris-Benedict formula:
Adult male: 66 + (6.3 x body weight in lbs.) + (12.9 x height in inches) - (6.8 x age in years) Adult female: 655 + (4.3 x weight in lbs.) + (4.7 x height in inches) - (4.7 x age in years)
